Overview:

Learn Dutch from scratch, no experience required! This course offers a good way to find out if a longer Dutch course suits you. This course teaches basic Dutch with the main focus on speaking and understanding Dutch in everyday situations. In the process, learn more about Dutch customs, culture and history. Students will be encouraged to participate in language games, role play, listening and speaking exercises. Classes are taught by Marion, who is a passionate native Dutch speaker and professional teacher with over 30 teaching years experience.

Currently only available to adult learners.

Outcomes:

By the end of the 4-week course, most students will have acquired enough language to engage in simple conversations in various situations. It will help prepare them for the follow-up Beginners course.

The pace of the course and what is covered will vary according to the group.

Support materials:

Students will be provided with online support materials to assist with the online lessons. Support materials are not designed to be used without attending the corresponding lessons. Content will be added and adjusted as students progress throughout the course, tailored to the needs of the class. You will need a Google/Gmail account to access the support materials.

Learning:

This course includes 2 hours a week of guided group learning. To get the full benefits of the course, it is recommended that learners continue practicing between classes. Try to set aside at least 10mins everyday for independent study with the provided support materials. Little bits everyday can be more effective than one long study period, especially to achieve fluency and retention of vocabulary and grammar.

Requirements:

  • A stable internet connection

  • Working webcam and microphone

  • A quiet space with minimal background noise

  • A writing-pad and pen to take notes

  • Join 10 mins early to ask any questions or test your connection

  • A (free) Google account to access support materials

Please ensure you have your webcam switched on and your mic off when you join the class. We kindly ask that you enable your webcam during class sessions for an optimal experience to help create an engaging environment that benefits everyone.

It is advisable to have two devices during the live class, so that you can access the support materials while you participate in the live call (e.g. a mobile device with the course materials next to a laptop with the live session). Alternatively you can print out the materials before the class.

How to join:

You will receive a welcome email a week prior to the start date with the Google Meet joining link and further instructions.

Details:

  • When: Tuesdays, 25 March - 15 April incl.

  • Where: Online live classes via Google Meet

  • Time: 6:00-8 pm AEDT

  • How: Instructions and Google Meet link will be sent to your nominated email address before the course begins.
